DESCRIPTION

Adelante Siempre translates as “always forward” and implies the courage and conviction to continually move ahead in life. This exhibition will present the recent art production of three Southern California Chicana photographic artists: Jacalyn Lopez-Garcia, Laura Aguilar, and Diane Arellano.

The work reveals current artistic explorations of the formal and theoretical concerns of their chosen medium, including a conceptual work by Lopez-Garcia's dog Goldie conducted on Facebook. The artists investigate issues ranging from the impact of social networking sites on the public imagination, the relationship of the human form to nature, and the performative social spaces of country line dancing within contemporary subcultures.

¡Adelante Siempre!: Recent Work by Southern California Chicana Photographers is curated by art historian, scholar, and University of Redlands Professor Ann Marie Leimer.
