110% - Recent works by Faculty from Art Center's Photo & Imaging Dept.
The exhibition title takes its cue from the 110 Pasadena/Harbor Freeway, whose entire sinewy length runs between San Pedro in the south (home of Angel's Gate Cultural Center) and Pasadena in the north (home of Art Center College of Design). 110% also speaks to the ambitious visions of both institutions, who aim to make meaningful contributions to Southern California's vibrant cultural laboratory.
This exhibition is purposeful in its partnership and scope. Angels Gate features programs that are locally accessible and globally relevant. Art Center's Photo and Imaging Department is always working to spearhead comprehensive and cutting edges of new photo practice.
The exhibition playfully presents divergent techniques and attitudes, and operates just beyond the horizon of the familiar. The work conveys the diversity of contemporary photographic practice, with the skillful utilization of a range of tools, from large format to digital, mixed media to 19th century alchemy. The photographic strategies take the work from the studio to site-based tableaux, the details of the human face to the powerful possibilities of fantasy and constructed realities.
