In 2006 after earning her Ph.D in mechanical engineering at Caltech\, An nMarie joined the faculty of the University of St. Thomas where she is dire ctor of the UST Design Laboratory leading a team of students looking at soc ially-conscious design through engineering. She earned her undergraduate de gree at MIT in ocean engineering with a minor in music. \;

AnnMarie teaches Engineering Graphics\, Machine Design\, Dynamics (with Circus Lab) \, Toy Design\, Product Design for an Aging Population\, and Brain Machine Interfaces (seminar). She served as the Founding Executive Director of the Maker Education Initiative where she worked to establish the national Maker Corps program. She has collaborated on art/science projects such as artist Steve Roden&rsquo\;s ear(th)\, 2004\, a sound sculpture using satellite da ta as a musical score\, and she has developed underwater robotics at MIT\, Caltech\, and the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute. At Caltech\, sh e founded the Caltech Robotics Outreach Group (CROG) and the Caltech/JPL/LE GO Middle School Robotics Conference. \;


Her talk at Art Center is organized by the college&rsquo\;s Alyce de Roulet Williamson Gallery as par t of its ongoing program exploring the fusion of art and science. \;
