Imagine opening an attic door for the first time in years. Dust adorns layer after layer of objects collected, carefully saved and then forgotten about. This old 'clutter' offers a strong, deeply personal insight into the lives of the collector. Though the gallery is clean (free of dust!), the space offers the same nostalgic journey back through time for visitors. Each of the artists offers a fresh interpretation of assemblage. Exene's is quirky and colorful, taking one back to their childhood puzzles and cards. Gail's are also bright, but they posses a more magical quality. Matjames assembles gears and gadgets and evokes a sense of curiosity and dark wonder. Michael McMillen's installation is very unique, reminiscent of an asylum where the old are incarcerated... this should be experienced for one's self!
