Sample City - Imaginary Spaces
The theme of the exhibition SAMPLE CITY is personal urban perceptions, called »the city«. The city, as a living organism, reflecting social processes and interactions, economic relations, political conditions and private matters.
In the city, human memories, desires and tragedies find expression in the form of designations and marks engraved in house walls and paving slabs. But what the city really is under this thick layer of signs, what it contains or conceals, is what we are researching in the SAMPLE CITY project.
Various forms of medial representation have been developed for the installation: tableaux, photo sequences, holographic stereograms, a folding sheet and a three dimensional photo object. Starting point for the exhibition are 22 sequences of photo works by Gusztáv Hámos, which were created in cities like Berlin, Budapest and New York.
SAMPLE CITY describes imaginary cities which have been documented with photographs in urban areas. No “real” existing cities in specific places, from special historic epochs, or as versions of Berlin, Budapest or New York are depicted, but rather urban phenomena, universal qualities or quintessence of urban life.
The project was conceptionalized during the “Year of Germany in India 2011-2013 – Infinite Opportunities”.
