Confluence A visual presentation of Works by nine artists and a sculptor .
Daily observations of littlethings in life, seemingly mundane objects, landscape elements, situations ofhuman interactions and their internalizations; all these and their subsequentexpressions of nine artists and a sculptor are presented in this exhibit.
They all live and work in Kerala, most of them in and around Kochi. Kerala hasalready become a network of small towns and coastal cities. This is historically inevitable. Globalization and media explosion add speed to thesechanges. Urbanization makes life complex. It has been happening for a whilenow. But how we cope with it’s good, bad and the ugly effects still remains asan objective reality. Artists are sensitive to these changes. Visual art of ourtimes reflects the contradictions vividly. The conflux of ideas and imagesare strikingly different for each participating artist here.
Some present theprocess of their work as they have evolved. Others simply present their finishedones where the process is already obvious. Many of the works are subtle or notso subtle commentary on the society as a whole and about its connection ordisconnection to the real essence of the land. It is presented with apsychological perspective or at times the point of view is socio-political andhistorical.
The common thread seen here is that, all of these artists work fromtheir observations of similar surroundings and land spaces within a similartime frame. On an experiential level, like in the analogy of different streamsmerging together, a confluence of different concepts and images are presentedwithin a common space, hopefully makes this attempt interesting.
