Flushing, NY 11355
November 10th, 2018 - February 24th
Opening: November 10th, 2018 11:00 AM - 9:00 PM

Offsite artworks of Queen's International 2018: Volumes (QI 2018) open on Nov. 10, 2018 at three branches of the Queens Library: Central, LeFrak and Flushing, marking the first time that the International has had a presence outside of the Museum. QI 2018 explores the concept of collecting, accumulating and distributing information, bridging together two important sites of knowledge-sharing: libraries and museums. Former Queens Poet Laureate Paolo Javier and Musician David Mason present their piece Fel Santos: I of Newtown, a multimedia installation in the LeFrak branch of the library that explores the intimacy and innovation of language unique to multilingual speakers and postcolonial cultures. Mo Kong's Black Cloud, Thin Iceat the Flushing branch will explore the origins of the "American" honeybee, investigating ideas of community, selfhood and belonging. At the Central branch, Patrick Killoran has developed Passage, a project that intervenes in the space of the library in an unexpected way to expand on the already broad scope of creative and intellectual exchange and promote discovery within the library walls. At each location, Jackson heights-based art critic Brian Droitcour and Astoria-based artist Christine Wong Yap invite visitors to participate in The People’s Guide to the Queens International, a writing workshop where guests share their responses to QI 2018 with the responses becoming apart of the exhibit themselves. The opening day will end with a reception and launch of the Queens International 2018: Volumes catalog at Terraza 7.
