DESCRIPTION

Bowery is pleased to present Michael Louis Johnson's second exhibition with the gallery. The artist's recent work includes self-portraits and cityscapes produced in oil paint and oil stick on paper and canvas.

Almost all the works are from observation, and many painted from a bank of windows overlooking northern Manhattan. The artist describes this latest work, notable for its brisk drawing and vibrant colors, as reflecting "...my response to what came before, and my evolving thoughts about painting."

There will be an artist's reception 5-8pm on Thursday, October 4.

Bowery artist Michael Louis Johnson is back with more self-portraits and cityscapes. With the exception of the oldest entry in this show, Snow White/The Fire, all of these works are from observation, viewed from a bank of windows looking out on Northern Manhattan. “These works are my response to what came before, and my evolving thoughts about painting in an effort to grow as a painter. I'm very excited about this recent work and can't wait to show it.” The show is made up of works with oil on canvas and oil on paper.
