The 29 Palms Art Gallery is hosting Ingrained, a solo exhibition by contemporary painter Paula Izydorek in the main gallery; (on view concurrently with landscape photographer Doug Dolde in the west gallery.) Izydorek’s acrylic on wood panel paintings address how submersion in the surrounding environment affects ones biochemistry, interpersonal conflicts and overall wellbeing.
“Through painting I examine and attempt to resolve personal yet universal conflicts; such as the subconscious yearning for self worth,” explains Izydorek “and during my process based narrative, I collaborate with the naturally occurring wood grain.”
Unlike the typical wood grain based abstractions, Izydorek’s compositions show diversity and tell unexpected stories by revealing identifiable forms intersecting with raw underlying emotions in a vibrant setting.
ABOUT ARTIST Paula Izydorek (American) is known for pairing acrylic ink with birch wood, on which she employs complex intertwining linear systems and geometric forms that interplay with the woods surface. Izydorek received a BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute. Her first solo exhibition Resolution or Evolution: An Intimate Interpretation was at Millard Sheets Art Center, Pomona, CA in 2015. Currently, her paintings are being shown nationally in both group and solo exhibitions. She lives and works in Cleveland, Ohio.
