Show #38: BODY/HEAD
Field Projects is proud to present Show #38: BODY/HEAD, an all-female artist exhibition of contemporary figurative work.
Many people are disturbed and demoralized by the results of the election. The Trump administration brazenly sets the framework for the continuation of misogyny and Rape Culture—in addition to racism, xenophobia, science illiteracy, and divisiveness. To the Trump administration, women should be praised for their bodies and keep their minds closed (unless they are in favor of him). The worst insult Trump imagines he can lob at a women is that she is too ugly for him to grope. Comments like these illuminate his attempt to prioritize female bodies over female minds, separating women's heads from their bodies.
In an act of protest against the administration's divisive rhetoric, BODY/HEAD celebrates multiple viewpoints against the backdrop of Be Fluent, an English Language school that advocates acceptance and overcoming disadvantage. Artists examine the human figure through multiple female gazes. The artists come from different backgrounds and have different points of view, yet their voices are strengthened, not weakened, when brought together. BODY/HEAD, an exhibition organized by men and women, seeks to repair the separation of women's bodies from their heads, to overcome demoralization, and to continue moving forward together.
