Art at the JCC Presents: EXPOSED! An artistic photographic journey

Opening Reception

Sunday, January 15, 2017 from 1:00-4:00 pm

Art at the JCC will host a juried local photography exhibition at the Jewish Federation’s Bronfman Family Jewish Community Center, 524 Chapala Street, from January 15-February 22, 2017. The public is invited to the opening reception on Sunday, January 15 from 1:00-4:00 pm to enjoy exquisite photography, live music, and refreshments.

EXPOSED! showcases local and national photographers, many of whom are long-standing professionals in the community. Alongside Brooks Institute of Photography alumni, the acclaimed Ernest H. Brooks II (President of the Brooks Institute after his father), known as the “Ansel Adams of Underwater Photography,” will show his donated piece called Winged Angel (see below). Twenty-five percent of the exhibit’s proceeds benefit the Jewish Federation’s social service and community programs.

Curated by Lynn M. Holley, EXPOSED! will be judged by Charles Wylie, the new curator of photography and new media at the Santa Barbara Museum of Art. He will offer three top awards.

“This is a rare opportunity for photographers to show their wares in all genres of the discipline,” says Lynn Holley. “I plan to curate works in film and digital, and those photographers who work with photographs as a process of fine art application. Like jazz, there is Straight Ahead, Dixieland, Latin, Cool, Smooth and Ragtime, etc., yet, it’s all jazz, and this is all photography. There is a camera clicking somewhere.”
