Wellcome Collection - Madness and Modernity/Bobby Baker's Diary Drawings

National Portrait Gallery – Gay Icon, 18th June to 20th September 2009

Opening last week, Gay Icon is a less than typical exhibition; part novelty show, part serious charting of the development of gay rights in British life.  Rather than displaying the portraiture of an artist or movement, the National Portrait Gallery has instead chosen to appoint ten people in the public eye, from sportswomen to writers, performers to politicians, all of whom are openly homosexual, and allow them to choose the six people they consider to have had the most influence on their lives.  This is a strictly photographic exhibition, so the subjects had to have lived within the past 150 yea...
