The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, 2013, MFA

I construct poetic narratives through a combination of moving and still images, objects and sculptural installations. My work considers the complexities of human interactions - moments of convergence and separation between individuals, the brutality we inflict on one another, physically and emotionally, and the impulses we suppress. I engage in slow, detailed processes such as drawing, printmaking and intricate paper cutting, and contrast them with more tactile sculptural methods that amplify the grotesque and affective nature of the themes I explore. I employ symbolic motifs such as long braids, detached limbs, unusual bodily openings, forests and caves, which through intuitive association form fractured stories and psychological self-portraits.
