JOHN FERDICO - born in the Bronx, NY
During my formal training on scholarship at The Art Students League (1984-78) in NYC I met another student, DIANE LEON. We were married in 1979 and continue to share our life together. We also maintain a home base in Alicante, Spain where we spend most of the summer.
I use vestiges of the past as symbols to embody the continuum of the human spirit in a contemporary vision. I work in oils, acrylics and collage. My work is a response to the images and history of archaic and prehistoric cultures.
My influences come from (jazz) music, film and Spain. I also studied at FIT and worked in wax and metal. I fabricated my own jewelry and designs.
My work was chosen twice by The Arts in Embassies Program. In 2006 I had three works at the US Embassy in Estonia and in 2007 three other works at the US Embassy in Amman, Jordan.
Diane Leon and I were a featured article in the Queens Courier in July 2008 by Marianne Nash, "Queens Artists' works hang in US Embassies."
Diane and I currently are represented by Gallery 54 in England.
