Karyn Yandow was born a fraternal twin in the Bronx, New York. She graduated from the San Francisco Art Institute in 1979 with a BFA in printmaking. Although she is a self taught photographer she was greatly influenced by her maternal grandparents who were documentary and fine art photographers.
"Using nature as metaphor to explore human spirituality and connectedness she weaves a common thread throughout her work that reflects upon the poignant meditative beauty of spirituality, loss, fragility and hope that reaches beyond the eyes and into the soul."
Karyn Yandow has exhibited her photography in San Francisco and the Bay Area for over twenty years at such venues as Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Falkirk Cultural Center, Gray Loft Gallery, Sebastopol Center for the Arts, Berkeley Art Center, Gallery Route One, Bolinas Museum, Sanchez Art Center and the Center for Photographic Arts in Carmel, CA.
She was a Co-Founder and Visual Arts curator at A.R.E. Inc. in San Francisco and served on the Board of Directors and Visual Arts Curatorial Committee at New Langton Arts in San Francisco.
