Through painting I get rid of compulsive thoughts and ideas. They can be a combination of colors that I like from somewhere or also a particular shape or composition.
The process can be very meditative but there are also moments where I can obsessively try to get something to look or feel a particular way for no reason. I'm mainly attracted to organic shapes and colors I find in nature.
Lately I've been interested in juxtaposing straight lines and gradients with organic shapes and also painting pieces of wood using their natural shapes.
These paintings are made using reclaimed pieces of wood. They are usually left-overs or considered defective because of the amount of knots they have. I pick and cut the ones I consider have the most interesting shapes and paint over some of the patterns already drawn in the wood to make them more obvious. It is like a tribute to the natural beauty of an abused natural resource.
