Art can inspire, teach and heal. I create public art that provokes a dialog between art and viewer, a place for discovery, reflection, connection.
I'm Gail Folwell, a contemporary sculptor specializing in conceptual portraits, humans engaged in thought, play, competition, dialog. My figures and faces are abstracted, inviting visitors to engage and interpret. Education, community, relationships, grief, multicultural forms and faces, inquiring minds, family and sport are all concepts that continue to inspire my art.
I've had the honor of creating large scale public works across the country, most recently, 'Tête à Tête', for the Denver Art Museum, with a second piece for their permanent collection in production. My work is dynamic and engaging from a distant silhouette to close and tactile detail.
