Los Angeles, Aug. 2009 - Planning A Year “See you next year,” is a common phrase people use when they believe the next time they will see a person is in the following year. People tend to make little “plans” without really realizing that they’re committing to a yearlong promise. Artist Sojung Kwok’s “Planning a Year” project does exactly that: she planned 365 actions a year ago, and is proceeding to do those actions now. This two-year project is still in the works and is documented by photos, videos, a... [more]

At PCP’s (Heisuke Kitazawa’s) solo show tonight, not only did he exhibit limited edition water colors and sumi ink paintings, he also gave a presentation on the process behind his work, his apartment in Japan, and enlightened us on his nickname. Joseph Grima is no stranger to speaking in front of a large audience, which is probably why he did a stellar job on the opening night of Postopolis! L.A. As the former editor and advisor of Domus magazine in Milan, and the current director of Storefront for Art and Architecture, Grima is constantly flying from country to country giving talks, and organizing events based on Storefront’s cause: advancing the innovative position of architecture, design, and art. I spoke with Grima the day after the opening night about working for Storefron... [more]
The Postopolis! LA event had to move from the roof to the conference room on the second floor by the time it was Geoff Manaugh’s turn to speak; hotel protocols. Geoff is a writer and architectural theorist as his blog, BLDGBLOG portrays. He is also the Senior Editor of Dwell, and Editor of Archinect. Unlike other speakers who had slideshows or powerpoints, Geoff chose to show one picture during the entirety of his lecture: a single photo of an artificial coral reef to explain to the audience his unique... On the opening night of Postopolis! LA, I found myself circling Flower and 6th street trying to find parking at the Standard. I entered the hotel that Sex & the City hyped up, and rode the elevator to the chic rooftop bar where the event was taking place. Jeffrey Inaba, Director of C-Lab, features editor of Volume magazine, and founder of INABA architecture, was finishing up a presentation among an audience full of architecture experts, art lovers, and socialites of L.A. I managed to steal a momen... [more]
