ABOUT STEVEN JANSSEN

Born and raised in Los Angeles, artist and gallery owner Steven Janssen has been painting since the age of four. Throughout his elementary and high school years he won numerous awards for student exhibitions. His then went to study life drawing and painting at California State University Long  Beach. After leaving college he began working for a procuction company in the art department where he learned the craft of scenic painting and prop making eventually his work was featured on Showtime, TLC, ABC and the Golden Globes.

Drawn back to the canvas, Janssen soon developed his own style, combining the human form with organic abstract movement. Numerous gallery exhibits followed gaining collectors over the years which eventually led him to open his own gallery in Palm Springs, California in 2006. The gallery named JANSSENARTSPACE, enjoyed some of the most innovative exhibits in the desert. Unfortunately as the economic downturn took its toll, he was forced to close the gallery to the dismay of many. Janssen moved back to L.A. and pursued life as an artist and taking JANSSENARTSPACE mobile, producing one-night pop up exhibits with other gallery artists.

In the following years, he focused soleley on his own art and found the perfect studio in the heart of downtown L.A. His work was featured in Architectural Digest and House Beautiful magazines. He was involved in many group exhibitions with Gloria Delson Contemporary Art and landeds a solo exhibit at De Re Gallery in West Hollywood.

The longing to be a gallerist again returned. As 2017 approached and as the tourism in Palm Springs rose to an all-time high, he sought to return JANSSEN ARTSPACE to the desert. Finding the perfect gallery space, he launched the gallery in full force in May, opening with his new series "Desert Abstraction." He now finds himself immersed in all things missed, nature, serrenity, curator and business owner.
