Lauren Ball is an artist who works within the realm of painting.

Ball’s exhibition history includes shows at Free Range Gallery (Chicago, IL), The Gowanus Ballroom (Brooklyn, NY), SideCar Gallery (Hammond, IN), Tyler School of Art (Rome, Italy), University of New Orleans Gallery (New Orleans, LA), artLedge (Chicago, IL), and The Butcher Shop (Chicago IL), as well as alternative and apartment spaces in New Orleans, New York, and Chicago. American quilts, parades and processions, film and theater set design, visual merchandising, Thorne Miniature Rooms at The Art Institute of Chicago, ‘Old Neighborhood’ Chicago culture, urban apartment building storage lockers, natural history dioramas, Indian Miniature Painting, and the Chicago cityscape remain reservoirs of visual inspiration. 

The works of Giorgio de Chirico, Bob Thompson, Odilon Redon, Philip Guston, Helen Frankenthaler, Mickalene Thomas, Sanford Biggers, and Judith Geichman inspire Ball’s ideas about painting and its possibilities. Ball’s work is informed by the aesthetic experience manifesting collective domestic memory and the preternatural qualities of the domestic object.
