Artist Statement

My paintings are a narrative of longing and desire through decay; each layer peeling, sliding or breaking away through time and by weather revealing what came before and a secret about the place or object exposed. This process is both allegory and inspiration for my work. If I were an object what would that be? What secrets would be revealed after time had it’s way with me; and finally what would be discovered about my maker?

Bio

I was born into a family of theater and film designers on the Upper West side of Manhattan. My father has always said that I was born with a paint brush in my hand. As a child if I was awake and not eating, I was painting.

After many summer art classes at the Metropolitan Museum of Art  and Parsons and after school programs at the Art Students League, I went to Laguardia High School and majored in art. From there I went off to Bennington College where I studied painting, among other things and spent a year in Paris studying and creating paintings.

I followed my parents into the film business after graduation and was working as a camera person when I met and married my husband. I had relegated my painting to “hobby” status, but I always managed to keep actively working. Once I was pregnant, I never wanted to look back at the Film Industry and pushed my painting back into the fore front of my days.

Now, painting has allowed me to be the kind of stay at home mom and wife I want to be. Painting is who I am, it is what I do, and it is how make my living.
