Olive Allen is a Russian-American artist currently living and working in New York City.
Her early experience with film and new media taught her to create each work as a mini-story that explores certain aspects of culture and society. In her art she follows examples of Picasso and Gerhard Richter in undermining the concept of the artist's obligation to maintain a single cohesive style. She considers idea the focus of an art piece and chooses medium that allows to express it more clearly.
For a few years she was exploring the notion of the future from a technological and existential point of view. Her fascination by the subject of matter comes from her scientist father who was the first to introduce her to the leading futurist Ray Kurzweil's works.
She created a number of paintings that were exhibited at several shows in New York and Los Angeles. She also did an art residency in Iceland where she spent more than a month in Westfjords collaborating with artists from all over the world.
Right now she is focusing on conceptual and socially conscious art. Olive believes that it is artist duty to reflect and comment on current state of affairs in the world while engaging the audience.
