Patrick McGrath Muñiz

Patrick was born in New York in 1975. At an early age his family moves to Puerto Rico. In 1993, Patrick enrolls in the School of Fine Arts of San Juan, Puerto Rico. There he studies Graphic Design and Painting. In 1996 he travels to Europe where he visits museums and studies old masterpieces. Back in Puerto Rico he opens a studio and art school. During this period the artist also makes several trips to the Caribbean, South and Central America.In 2003 completes his studies in the School of Fine Arts of San Juan, Puerto Rico, where he graduates with a bachelor’s degree in fine arts (Magna Cum Laude) majoring in painting.
By 2006 he obtains a masters degree in fine arts with a major in Painting (Summa Cum Laude) from the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Georgia. There he exhibits his thesis show Iconsumer. The artist moves this exhibition to the Museum of the Americas in San Juan, Puerto Rico in 2007. This show earns the artist the Prima Opera award given by AICA (International Association of Art Critics). By the same year he shows Iconsumer Media at Las Capuchinas Convent and Museum in Antigua, Guatemala. In 2008 he earns the Francisco Goya award in Barcelona, Spain. In 2009 the artist has solo shows in New York, Florida, Amsterdam and Guatemala. In 2010 presents Era Dorada in the Sacred Heart University in San Juan, Puerto Rico and in 2011 in Antigua, Guatemala, His work has been in collective shows in Japan, Great Britain, Spain, El Salvador and in the United States. Mcgrath’s work can be found in private collections in the U.S. Great Britain, The Netherlands, Spain, El Salvador and Guatemala, Puerto Rico, Aruba and other countries. In 2012 he presents Saints, Heroes and Corporations at Jane Sauer Gallery, Santa Fe, New Mexico. This year, the Albuquerque Museum of Art and History acquires an important piece from this exhibition. Today the artist lives and works in Savannah Georgia and is represented by Jane Sauer Gallery in New Mexico and La Antigua gallery in Guatemala, while showing his work both at an international and national level.
