Statement
Mirland Terlonge (American b. 1991) is a multidisciplinary artist from Miami, Florida. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Florida and an MFA in Painting and Drawing from Pratt Institute. Being born to first generation immigrants from Haiti and Jamaica her work investigates her complicated relationship to America. She is interested in blurring lines and connecting things in clear opposition. Performance allows her to use her body in space to direct attention to her social environment. Interaction with the public exposes things overlooked and poses questions she hoped she had answers to. Mirland works in multiple mediums such as installation, sound, sculpture, and painting as a form of storytelling. By working this way she hopes to grasp the caliber of complexity inherent to her participation in society as a Black woman of Caribbean decent born and raised in America
