Seeking, exploring and escaping are themes Marlies Kuhn develop when creating an archive of visual perceptions. Through her painting she establish a found and gathered vocabulary for a body of work, often in response to a place. Kuhn incorporate imperfections in her hand-drawn lines and the slippage of paint over the border. Jarring colors and harsh angles take a backstage to blues, greens, and earthy colors. Geometry becomes a different kind of nature, repeating one image in many variations or forms. At its basis, escape involves forgetting the known.
Marlies Kuhn was born in Schwerin, a town in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, East Germany, in 1978. She studied Fine Art in Norway, Denmark and Germany where she earned her Masters in Fine Art at the Muthesius Academy in 2011.
