Statement

Michele Witchipoo is a self taught artist, born in The Bronx and raised in Queens, New York. She attended the High School of Art & Design, and began self-publishing her own comics in fanzine form during 2004. Her illustrations have been published by other companies, including Vice Magazine, MTV Press, Brooklyn Rail website, A Raven Above Press and others. In addition to cartooning and illustration, she has made her forte into fine art, writing and photography. 

Her influences include various subcultures, esoterica, music, film, literature, dystopian Sci-Fi, horror, history, pop culture, and dark erotica. Her hometown of New York City has also impacted her work. 

Michele has exhibited in numerous group exhibitions and one night events in both New York City and Los Angeles.  Some of the places her has been shown: the annual Welcome To My Nightmare events, MF Gallery, Art Takes Times Square 2012, Hyaena Gallery, Barnsdall Art Park and Bushwick Open Studios.

Michele continues to live in the New York, residing in Ridgwood, Queens.
