I start paintings haphazardly and come back to them in stages, applying the paint thickly and quickly. Similar to an ink blot, forms are suggested, not readily apparent. They inspire a scene, painterly, not figurative. Weathered barns, old trucks and worn objects have always intrigued me, and the paintings look as though they too are worn over time, gaining the solidity and heft of an artifact. I want to simulate a synesthetic reaction, triggering aural and tactile hallucinations.
Ideally a painting serves as a talisman into a dream world.
