I use mixed media and installation to examine degeneration and “new” generation. Unlike re-generation, which is a return to an original state, new-generation gives way to new arrangements. Traditional art materials mixed with medical supplies, adaptive equipment, organics, toys and domestic objects become hybrids that best reflect my language. The conversations these arrangements evoke combine a light-hearted sensibility under which content is heavily loaded.
I’m interested in scientific and social supports that improve life quality for people facing debilitating conditions. All ethnicities, cultures, religions, social statuses, and sexual orientations face aging and disabilities. I believe art can transcend the fear of dependency and mortality into a sublime reality where sensitivities are raised to preserve dignity and increase community supports, medical research and social acceptance.
