I am an interdisciplinary artist and my work is about transcending the symbolic systems of language and image by investigating the role they play in forming identity. For the past several years I have been working on a project called "The Shank" that uses self-help techniques and Hip-Hop culture as the foundation for this investigation. I use the prominent expressions of Hip-Hop; its iconography, rap music, graffiti, etc and through imitation and repetition embody the creation and thus the creator. In essence filling myself up with the other until a new self manifests and from this new self a new creation, artwork that comes into fruition from learning a collage of various works from various artists in various mediums channeled into existence through my definitive voice. Currently I am finishing a series of drawings of my stylized alphabet influenced by copying graffiti.
