Statement
Sarah Bostwick casts and carves traditional materials, such as plaster and hardwoods, to depict minimalist landscapes and scenes of colloquial architecture in low relief. By employing light and shadow to illustrate how built landscapes are altered by their inhabitants, Bostwick seeks to comment on the language of objects.  She is interested in documenting places as a type of cultural anthropology, recreating man-made forms in monochromatic miniature in an attempt to decipher these three-dimensional objects. For her exhibition, Bostwick will present new works that hover between three-dimensional objects and allusions of pictorial space.

Her recent solo exhibitions include, Actual Space, Meessen De Clercq, Brussels, 2012, and Grey Area, Gregory Lind Gallery, San Francisco, 2011. Bostwick’s work is in the permanent collection of SFMOMA, The Progressive Art Collection, and Microsoft Art Collection and has been featured in Artforum, Flash Art, the San Francisco Chronicle, and The New York Times.
