April grew up in a creative environment with parents who designed and constructed their home, furniture, and clothing. At an early age she began drawing, followed by fascinating gift of a water color box that began her career as a painter. She earned a four-year art scholarship for her bachelor’s degree and has been a professional artist since graduating, exhibiting in galleries and museums throughout the US.
Early in her career she encountered and overcame two episodes with cancer. These encounters left a deep impression on her work reflecting not only on the frail nature of existence on Earth, but also our struggle with the perception of opposition. These paintings, often autobiographical, dealt with emerging self-awareness and growth from the perspective of a woman’s psyche.
After moving to Southern California her interest in traditional landscapes began to be more influenced by the urban and industrial world that has been superimposed on the natural landscape. The division and articulation of space with industrial and architectural forms now frequent her work along with the moving effect of light and atmosphere.
April is a Signature Artist in both Oil Painters of America and Laguna Plein-Air Painters Association. She is an Artist Member of the California Art Club.

“My mind is always at work painting – even when I am not. I consider where light falls, the division of space, and most of all, the atmosphere. I infuse the paint with life as I feel it.“
