West Virginia University, 1994, BFA
I work in woodcut prints on paper and canvas. It ranges from small handcrafted books to large-scale thematic sculptures and installations of printed materials. I choose woodcut and letterpress for directness, simplicity and graphic impact, and the medium of printmaking for its rich history, its accessibility, and ability to span both modern and historical traditions. My most recent project uses botanical images and letterpress text in a project called "The Language of Flowers". Historically, flowers were a means to send messages of desire or dislike that were dared not spoken. Specific flowers communicated specific postures. In this work, the choices of single flowers or bouquets, along with the text, add contemporary, prurient twists to this tradition of cautious exchange.
I was born in Morgantown, WV, in 1972. I received a BFA from West Virginia University in 1994, and an MFA from American University in Washington D.C in 1996.
