Sculpture begins and ends with an insight. Insight is a moment of illuminated thinking in which beauty present in ordinary existence is revealed to the imagination. That beauty, created by our bodies and beings, is what I hope to convey through my sculptures. I try to capture moments of the everyday world that are at once transient and transcendent, that may easily go unnoticed but that turn out to have universal significance when perceived. We must allow ourselves to feel awe at these insights, sculptor and viewer alike, in order to return to a richer, deeper human experience. After all, “there is but one direction in art: from one human being to another” (Stanislaw Jerzy Lec).
Julia Levitina was born in Odessa, Ukraine. She creates representational sculptures of figures and animals in terra cotta and bronze. Levitina does all the casting and finishing of her bronzes. She is thus able to exploit the nuances of her craft to achieve the precise end result she envisions. Her work has been exhibited in the United States, Belgium, Ukraine and France.
Julia Levitina's sculpture, both figurative and animalier, has earned her various awards and honors. It was singled out by the National Sculpture Society in the United States as a meritorious body of work. Levitina received numerous awards in figure modeling and her sculptures were recognized for "uplifting the human spirit." She is currently working on several commissioned pieces.
Levitina's bronzes can be found in various public and private art collections in US and in Europe.
