My current work is geometrical, symmetrical, and graphic oriented. The pieces are based upon repeating units, patterns, and lines. The CutOuts, which is what I call my pieces, begin with small drawings that are scanned into my computer. I view the computer as an extension of my sketchbook. I take the drawings and twist, transpose, and multiply them into a unit what is then replicated in a fractal nature to create the drawing, which I design the pieces around. The CutOuts are constructed of laminated MDF and Masonite on which I draw the perimeter of the design and jigsaw the shape out. The initial drawing is then lightly painted on the sanded and primed shape, and then I begin to break the linear elements down. I am interested in the connectivity through repetition of the individual units that join together to create a unique whole and I internally relate that to the Gordian nature of our lives and the world around us.
