China Basin series IV
My subject is what I am surrounded by: heavy sky against the silhouettes of the city, hazy light by the bay, poles and cables randomly defining negative spaces, reflections on a building that define the mood of the street. The colors and texture of California.
This is the fourth in a series of small and medium size oil paintings of the docks and shipyards of San Francisco’s China Basin.
The paintings begin on location en plein air, each representing a specific moment at an ever changing place. As they are completed over a period of time in the studio, working from photos, sketches and color notes, they evolve into a record of my memory.
