Statement

Through painting, sculpture, drawing, and visual analysis Esther Simmonds MacAdam aims to position masculinity as a discursive fiction and provoke considerations of contemporary sexuality, desire, power and identity. Her background in Woman's Studies (BA Concordia University) and Cultural Theory (MA University of Toronto) strongly informs her practice. She has exhibited widely and participated residencies at The Banff Centre, Banff, Alberta (2012, 2013) and The NARS Foundation, Brooklyn, New York. Esther's practice has been generously supported by the Ontario Arts Council and the Social Science and Humanities Research Council of Canada.
