Every piece of art I create is a love letter to the Universe. My theory is that the tiny spark of imagination that influences all artists is related to the original energy that birthed the Cosmos.
I am self trained. I do my best to capture the images that appear in my imagination. The images may not turn out exactly the way I want, but the results are normally unique and interesting, and I can live with that. In his book How Music Works, David Byrne opines that unique artistic creations have just as much or more to do with the artist's limitations as their abilities. He feels that the limitations of tools, skill, and a creative envioronment for an artist might directly increase the uniqueness of their art. I tend to agree with that.
One of the greatest compliments that anyone has ever given me is that my art reminds them of their childhood. I feel like if I can capture something in my art that reflects the pureness and innocence of childhood then I must be on to something.
To the bone the art is Me. It's Punk and Hip Hop. It's sampling and remixing images. It's Tribal and Psychadelic Its Grafitti and Brut. It's Pop and Abstract, Impressionistic and Expressionistic, Sureal and Minimal. It's ironical and earnest. It's spiritual. It's abrasive. It's present. It's past. It's future. It's balance. Above all, it's joy.
My painting 'Contact' is a featured design for a Povertees pocket t shirt. Povertees is a non-profit social enterprise that makes clothing to employ individuals transitioning out of homelessness within a supportive community. Check it out http://www.povertees.com/collection...
A few of my pieces were featured in the June 2014 edition of the online literary magazine Ascent Aspirations. I have sold several pieces of my artwork to private collectors.
