For more than 10 years, Luftwerk have created art installations that merge elements of light and video with facets of architecture and design. Their 2010 commission to create a new media exhibit for the centennial celebration of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Robie House helped them discover a deeper resonance with architecture and pursue a growing interest in how experiences of space and site are augmented through light and sound. Their projects blend history and contemporary media with public spaces and landmark structures, opening a new aesthetic conversation. Luftwerk is the creative vision of Petra Bachmaier and Sean Gallero.
Petra Bachmaier studied fine art at the University of Fine Arts in Hamburg, Germany, the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), and at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam. Sean Gallero studied art and humanities at Lehman College in the Bronx where he is from and fine and applied arts at SAIC.
