Statement

Ellen Christensen was born in Richmond, California into a love of drawing and a house full of books. When she was little, she worked on art projects around a wooden table with her dad, making prints from linoleum carvings and tracing old book illustrations and botanical images.

She graduated from UC Berkeley in 2007 and now works as an editor and designer at an art book publishing company in the Bay Area, where she is exposed to talent and creativity every day.

She loves the freedom and ease of watercolors, the scritch scratch sound of pen & ink, and the layered colors of gouache. Her inspiration still comes from oddities and everyday encounters, and from old books, old folks, and old photos.
