Statement & Experience

My pieces tend to be playfully messy, colorful and child like through a mixture of torn paper and photographs, oil pastels, watercolors, acrylics-whatever the work seems to be asking for. Sometimes I paint imagery from dreams. I love painting on porous rough cardboard surfaces with my fingers, using pieces of old discarded boxes to transform them in to something else.

I find huge inspiration in children's drawings and paintings. I often incorporate writing about compassionate awareness onto the finished surfaces, and the symbols I weave into my work are greatly influenced by Australian aboriginal art and astronomy images. Coloring in the lines is very optional for me.

Above all my works have been inspired by the idea of kindness, or "wise use of the heart." Infusing this philosophy into my art making has resulted in small, handmade pieces of art or writing left anonymously on random park benches, light posts and tree stumps-a small watercolor painting here, a tiny decorative note there. The only intention is that someone who needs it will find it. I will often give my one of my larger pieces away to a particular person I know if they are going through a challenging time. Using art in service of others, anonymously or otherwise, has continued to be transforming, healing and keeps my heart open.
