Biography

Katya was born in Gorky (now called Nizhny Novgorod), Russia, in 1989. She spent the first eleven years of her life in the same city, but right after 2001’s New Year’s celebrations she left with her parents to go live in Prague, Czech Republic. There she attended the Prague British School until graduation in 2008. During her stay in Prague Katya took private art classes with a diverse group of local artists who taught her to think and see outside the box, inside the box, and even perceive the 10th dimension of the box.

After Prague Katya decided to study art in America. She came to Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, IL, to complete a four-year BFA degree in “Art”. Technically concentrating in Painting, Katya also learned traditional drawing, printmaking and sculpture. While studying in Bloomington, Katya went to London, UK, to study one semester at Goldsmiths College. There she primarily focused on drawing and worked on four completely hand-made books.

Apart from her studies and her painting, Katya has been exploring the world of video art and film-making. She made her first video in 2006 and has since made numerous short videos, music videos, non-sensical artistic videos and collaborated on short films as well. Most of all Katya enjoys directing, filming and editing her video work.

Katya currently lives in Chicago, IL and is continuing to work on paintings, illustrations, books and videos.
