Stephanie Buhmann was born in 1977 in Hamburg, Germany. She received a B.F.A. and Master in the History of Art, Architecture and Design from Pratt Institute, NY. She is a member of the Association Internationale des Critiques d'Art and the Deutscher Fachjournalisten-Verband. She is a contributing editor at Her essays and art reviews have been published by a variety of international galleries, newspapers, and art magazines. The latter include Kunst Bulletin, Sculpture Magazine, The Brooklyn Rail, ARTPulse, Art on Paper, Art Papers, Art Collector and Art Lies, among others. She has a regular art column in Chelsea Now. Several of her texts have been translated into German, Italian, and Chinese. She has translated several museum catalogue essays, including for the Guggenheim Museum in Venice, Italy and Museum Pfalzgalerie Kaiserslautern, Germany. She has received a Kress Foundation Fellowship and an Archive- and Library Stipend from the Arp Foundation (2015). She has curated numerous solo and group exhibitions in New York and Germany. “In Conversation” is a compilation of studio interviews with artists based in New York. This project inspired two related group shows at BMCC’s Shirley Fiterman Art Center (2015) and the Macy Art Gallery, Teacher's College, Columbia University (on view), as well as the book "NY Studio Conversation; 17 Women Talk About Art", published by The Green Box / Berlin (2016) and to be released internationally in March.
