Born in London, Jaykoe gained his MFA in 2012 from The Cass School in London. Sharing his time between his studios in London and Barcelona, exhibiting in solo and group exhibitions from Japan to Germany, Brazil to the USA, and becoming part of renowned corporate collections such as Black Rock.
Jaykoe has a fascination with cities, his work stems from a fascination with the centres we construct, the forms they take and what they reveal about us. This shouldn’t be surprising, given that, as he notes, more than half the world’s population lives in cities, a proportion that is expected to rise to three quarters by 2050. What matters to Jaykoe, however, goes beyond statistics – he is more fascinated by exploring perspectives – both personal and physical.
Close-ups, unexpected vistas, abstract shapes that morph on closer inspection into the recognisable: these come together in Jaykoe’s work to reveal cities as the truly strange and wonderful spaces we may, by habit, ignore. His work encompasses photography, digital manipulation and print, books, sculpture and 3D printing.
His work is utterly contemporary, he gets to the heart of the vastness, but also the more personal spaces of the city. His style is unique, and brilliant.
