The idea that a line on a flat surface can represent more than itself, varying in tone, width, texture, direction, continuity, transparency - become alive, pulsating with rhythm, rapid or slow modulation, movement and color - represent a temperament, a history, a transformation, stepping into the unknown, the essence and core of the creative force and imagination, that idea continues to inspire me while asking myself what lies on both sides of the line, what is really there?
Finding the balance between certainty and uncertainty, control and chaos, rational and irrational, order and randomness, the conscious and unconscious is the road traveled with each new mark on a canvas, a process starting anew with each painting. Does the end result echo the soul, or connect us to the universal within?
