My work is rooted in the collection and documentation of physical objects that are gathered in the field. Items are selected with the intent of marking particular moments and places. Once in the studio, through process and time, they begin to separate from the memories associated with them. Objects are traced for their shapes, rendered and painted over, their textures are borrowed, they are combined with accidents and controlled pours. The work begins to synthesise itself; referencing a copy, then regurgitating a version of the physical object representing an original moment. This for me is human experience. It is meant to mirror our process of living, compiling information and reliving that experience within ourselves. The work is an attempt through ritual to hold onto something ephemeral, knowing that is an impossibility, and letting the work dissolve into something honest.
