I am a portrait/figurative oil painter. My tense awareness of people allows me to seize and codify my subject's state of mind. Because I live in the modern, industrialized framework of New Jersey (street, building, room, paper and video monitor), my visual reality is the edge of a rectangle. Due to this influence, I choose to push figures close to the canvas surface with rudiments of a geometric modernity loosely summarized as background. Both the reflection of light and shadow on skin and emotion drive color.
