Janet Dees is the Steven and Lisa Munster Tananbaum Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Mary & Leigh Block Museum of Art, Northwestern University. Her 2017 exhibition at the Block, “If You Remember, I’ll Remember” featured the work of Kristine Aono, Shan Goshorn, Samantha Hill, McCallum & Tarry, Dario Robleto and Marie Watt. Prior to her appointment at the Block in September 2015, she was curator at SITE Santa Fe, where she had held various curatorial positions since 2008. Dees was apart of the curatorial team for the inaugural SITElines: New Perspectives on Art of the Americas biennial, and has curated exhibitions and produced new commissions with a wide variety of contemporary artists including Janine Antoni, Jamison Chas Banks, Gregory Crewdson, Amy Cutler, Leonardo Drew, Deborah Grant, Ann Hamilton, Harmony Hammond, Linda Mary Montano, Sarah Oppenheimer, Mary Reid Kelley, and Rose B. Simpson among others. Her writing has been featured in publications for SITE Santa Fe, the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian, and Radius Books, among others.
