Chaim van Luit was born in Heerlen and earned a Bachelor’s degree at the Academy of Fine Arts in Maastricht, after having served in the marines for four years. He is currently living in Maastricht, where he is completing a post graduate program at the Jan van Eyck Academy, and Brussels, his present place of work. Van Luit has started exhibiting only five years ago but has already participated in numerous group shows in Bonnefantenmuseum Maastricht, Wilhelm-Hack-Museum Ludwigshafen, Stedelijk Museum Schiedam, Royal Museum of Fine Art Antwerpen and many other places. He had his first museum solo in 2013: Third Rail at Bonnefantenmuseum. Van Luit has received stipends of the Mondrian Foundation and Werk 52. In 2011 he won the Gilbert de Bontridder Prijs and was nominated for the Artolive Award. Two years later he was nominated for the Van Bommel Van Dam Prijs, the Hermine van Bers Beeldende Kunst Prijs, the Volkskrant Beeldende Kunst Prijs and the Parkstad Limburg Prijs. His work in in the collections of Bonnefantenmuseum, Caldic, Art21, De Nederlandsche Bank, Space Collection as well as various private collections.
