During the 1980s he settled in Canada, where he lived for six years and he exhibited in several galleries, Edimage, j. Yahouda, Meir, and Cultard. Later he joined the Gallery Cultard to participate in the school of the Art Institute of Chicago, and the 87 FIAC, Grand Palais (Paris). In 1989 he moved to Paris, where he settled for six months, and exhibited in gallery Vison Quai.

These stages were a fundamental shift in his life and work, since then his figurative compositions acquire more force and formal tension, and all the characters in his works obtained a more classical base, while his style was enriched with a more personal and expressive evolution. When he returned to Catalonia was established between L'Arboç, his hometown, and the city of Barcelona. Tuset used his painting to enhance with a symbolic meaning, passion and irony, which provide an unusual dramatic force to his work, giving rise to multiple interpretations and a flow of ideas.

His style, with a strong symbolic presence, is full of surreal reminiscences.

According to Josep Maria Cadena, critic of art, "the human figure is central to the paintings of Joan Tuset, He is interested in it not only to reproduce it in its formal aspect, but also to express a variety of emotional situations." The honesty of personal expression in his works, makes them more interesting. "

According to Josep Maresme i Pedregosa, Member of ICOM, Joan Tuset has a personal style that gives strength and character to his work, It makes his work understandable, giving a very personal version of the feeling of beauty. "I think there need to admire his work with care, and savor it as it deserves."
