Peter Drake Biography
Peter Drake’s paintings and videos have been featured in 26 Solo exhibitions with works in the permanent collections of the Whitney Museum, Phoenix Museum of Art, MOCA LA, The Museum of Modern Art in Mexico City and the L.A. County Museum of Art.
In 2015 Drake's "Waiting for Toydot" a permanent MTA Arts and Design public art commission for the Long Island Rail Road Massapequa Station opened to the public. In addition to his artistic practice he is the Academic Dean at the New York Academy of Art, a progressive figurative and representational graduate program. Recent curatorial projects include Beautiful Beast a contemporary representational sculpture exhibition Spring 2015 and The Big Picture which featured Vincent Desiderio, Eric Fischl, Neo Rauch, Jenny Saville and Mark Tansey, Spring 2014 at Wilkinson Gallery.
Selected recent exhibitions of note are Disturbing Innocence curated by Eric Fischl at the FLAG Art Foundation, A Family Affair: Selections from the Progressive Art Collection, Paper! at the Phoenix Art Museum and Re-animate at Linda Warren Projects. Drake received a fellowship from the New York Foundation for the Arts and a National Endowment for the Arts award. He previously served as a curator for The Drawing Center in New York City and wrote for Flash Art Magazine. He was recently appointed as a Member of the Board for the Artist's Fellowship, Inc.
